Distress Inks are Fabulous

G'Day.....

Just having fun creating cards.....with distress ink and water.

Here is a card, I made using aged mahogany.

I sponged a whole stencil with aged mahogany onto watercolour paper. I cut out the centre shape and was left with reverse L shape, then I used a water brush to pull water from the sponge area, which created a light colour background, I kept on doing this until I ended up with the the shade I wanted.
I then glued this shape onto my white base cardstock. I stamped Happy Birthday (rubber stamp) and coloured it in with a coloured pencil that matched aged mahogany. Here is a close up.

I then stamped a banner (KaiserCraft - weekdays ) with aged mahogany onto watercolour paper and pulled the colour from the edges with a water brush and cut them out and stuck them on the base card with pop dots for dimension and jazz them up with a red jewel.

How cool is that, just love that technique. I really like colouring this way with distress inks.

Gotta get me some more colours...

TH 12 Tags of 2014

G'day

For a long time I have been admiring and buying Tim Holtz products, especially distress inks, paints, embossing folders and hoping for many more in the future.

By discovering Tim Holtz Blog,  I have come across his 12 tags of 2014.  So I thought I would give it a try and create a project of my own.

As I have many trinkets, that I have been holding on to for a while, it was time to show them off on a flat panel canvas, which I love creating on at the moment.

Here is my canvas inspired by Tim Holtz May Tag.  Click picture for details.

I had a garden theme in mind.

Unlock the Gate
Experience the View
Take in the Scent
Admire the Beauty
Catch the Flight
Lock in the Grandeur

I wanted to express the Experience one would acquire entering a long lost garden, to feel the presence of nature and the beauty it holds within those locked gates and to capture the essence of smell and feel of a petal that has long gone, been lived and dried in a small bottle to be experienced forever.  Also to wear a heart pendant that would always remind you of the grandeur that the garden represents.  And to frame the complex understanding of flight of the magnificent dragonfly.  To the full blown identity of flowers and leaves that will forever grow.

On the base canvas I used distress inks (walnut stain, forest moss, faded jeans, rusty hinge, aged mahogany) and created a water look background that would match the design paper (KaiserCraft - art of life and vintage timeless) of the tiles.

The trinkets I have had in my stash for a while, but the small bottle I bought recently from a local gift shop and here was my chance to show it off, I just love the size, soooo cute.  I hung a small pendant, made with love from the bottle and placed dried petals, that I collected of a beautiful flower tree.

I also got these small flowers, which came in a bottle from a gift shop.

The flowers in a dome, just beautiful so I had to showcase them under a glass dome and surround them with a chain, to enclose them forever.  The heart pendant is just adorable, love the metallic look.

I do not have die cuts, only of leaves, which I could have used, maybe next time, but instead I had bought a wooden cut key, which I think nicely symbolizes the entry to the forgotten garden,

The oval pendant is so elegant was not sure how to use it, so I used the dragonfly on the design paper to highlight the magnificent flight amongst the garden.

These two I adore, metal butterfly and dragon fly, I love how they fly.  I thought about giving them color but they looked good on their own.

I think that sums it all up, here is a close up of the definition or the word Experience.  Click pic to read.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my canvas piece and would love to know if it will inspire you to create an experience of your own to showcase in your home for all to admire and love.

I would love to enter my canvas  into the following giveaway/challenges :-

A Vintage Happy Birthday Card

G'day

Thought I would create a Happy Birthday card with a difference.  Live Life to the Fullest and Travel the World with no limit to the Time you have to do your thing.

Here is my card.

A bit of an angle to show you the embossing over the card panel, after all the stamping and sponging.

I wanted something different so I used a round dome to showcase the front sentiment.  On the inside I stamped Happy Birthday.  I wanted to use the same ink color, so I stamped off in some images.

I also wanted to add texture and I remembered I had the cuttlebug embossing folder clockworks, which I think suites the challenge at The Crafters Cafe called Time Piece.

I saw another challenge and I wanted to incorporate some stitching, but, no machine at hand, so I used faux stitching on the top and bottom of the card, just for something out of the ordinary, i also stitched on the back of the card.

Add some bling and there you have it, a card with a difference, in my opinion.

Flowers & Leaves on my Mind

G'Day

How about a Mixed Media Canvas with Modelling Paste as a Favorite Medium.

Lately been loving the flat panel canvas, from a gift shop for two bucks a packet. Just fabulous. Plus the new texture or modelling paste and some distress inks on tissue paper.

Here is what I came up with. .just love the texture on the tissue paper, using distress inks (barn door, dusty concord, wild honey). Crumpled and when heated creates the veins, soooo cool.

The bottom left corner is dry. Love the veins.

Completely dried.

With the modelling paste, I created texture on the canvas panel, when dried overnight, I glued on the coloured tissue paper with mod podge.

I did not get a pic of that but you can see on the picture below, the texture and colour of the paste and tissue paper.

Here is the whole canvas.

I love the leaves, stamped in Forrest moss and crushed olive then coloured with water brush. Same with the butterflies. Made sure there was some silver glitter too. The flowers I had in my stash, all sort of colours and sizes, with bling of course.

Stamps used :-

STAMPlorations - Thankful Grateful (leaves) and

KaiserCraft - Bonjour (big butterflies)

I really enjoyed creating this canvas, especially the textures. Must create more. I have other projects to share soon, so stay tuned.
